The Panics at Metro Theatre, Sydney

I saw the Panics on Friday night and love love loved it.

I’ve been a fan since picking up a copy of their current album, Cruel Guards. It’s been playing non-stop on my iPod and is my record of choice when I’m driving in the car so I was really happy to be covering this gig.

The band were clearly stoked at their newfound popularity, repeatedly thanking the crowd for coming out and saying how chuffed they were at the sheer number of us coming to see them.

Even though I love their album I wasn’t sure whether that would translate to a great live performance, as their music is quite laidback and mellow. I was proved wrong - their live sound is so much better than what they are on record. The music was rich and layered and the warm and fuzzy vibes bouncing all over the place translated to a great set. For me, Cruel Guards was the highlight of the night, and of course their epic (and rightly so) hit Don’t Fight It. Their lovely songs surrounded me like a big warm hug on a cold winter night.

Fantastic.

More photos taken by me here.

Playing with long exposures

Taken by V, processed by me.

On another note, my time on this blog and other people’s blogs seem to increase exponentially in relation to how much I should be studying. I really should stop wasting time changing the layout or looking at different blog sites…for example, moving to tumblr, realising it’s crap and shamefully coming back to wordpress within two days. It’s such a waste of time and I know I’ve said this before but I’m sticking to wordpress for a while…until I figure out the whole getting my own domain/host/server thing. Said and DONE!

85mm f1.8

I did a quick 5 minute session with my brother and his new lens this morning.

We’re both looking to improve our skills, particularly in taking portraits so we brought along our cameras for a quick, literally 5 minute shoot (before we realised our Campos coffees were going to waste - I wasn’t going to stand around posing for photos while it was getting cold).

The lens is ultra sharp and feels even smoother than my 50mm f1.8.

My shots came out pretty standard, but hopefully we’ll both start getting comfortable in front of the camera and I’ll be posting some quality shots of brother dearest in the coming weeks. Early morning, coffee getting cold and skipping breakfast wasn’t really conducive to bounds of energy and enthusiasm from either of us…

WordPress indecision!

I keep changing my template every week, I can’t decide which one suits me best and I wish I knew how to use CSS so I could upgrade my WordPress and make use of it.

This constant template shopping has led me to discover a new great layout that has been stealthily introduced (or continually overlooked by me), which in turn has got me all excited about a new blog I’ve set up and will hopefully build on as my currently non-existent portfolio grows.

It’s called cast light photography and will probably be in construction for a long while. I’m hoping to improve leaps and bounds this year in my photography skills and also build up a collection of photos I’m happy with. It’s pretty much just going to be a space to display my photos online that is a bit more nice looking than Flickr…and maybe one day I’ll actually have a decent portfolio and can call myself more than just a hack with a nice SLR camera!

This is the link to my new site - but expect it to be non-operational for quite some time yet! I will be uploading photos over on that site once in a while, so check up on it every so often - but only if you’re really bored :)

bills

Big weekend. Corn fritters were good for recovery today, felt pretty crappy. Their avocado salsa is also a good pick me up - very tasty.
